The Furlo Canyon

Furlo comes from the roman "forulus", that is from the tunnel opened by Emperor Vespasiano in 76 A.D., on the Flaminia road. A place of grandiose constructions first Etruscan, then Roman, theatre of great battles for its passage position. The rocky walls of the canyon, produced by the erosion of the Candigliano river, rise for hundreds of metres on the peculiar emerald-green river. The Furlo Canyon offers a landscape of wild beauty, but also the view of a spectacular dam for electric energy production.

The Furlo Canyon is home to a rich flora and fauna, noticeably the Golden Eagle which nests there.
